ArtNews in the New Year

From my last post, December 2nd, 2007, I have read all, yes, all three volumes of Vincent van Gogh's Letters to Theo (his brother.)

What a fascinating account, what a fascinating insight, to the genius - and what a tragic letter, the very last one, before this artistic genius took his own life.

I had two or three picture books of van Gogh's art open next to me as I read - and it was fascinating to see and read at the same time, Vincents thoughts, his perpetual struggle to stay alive, the loss he felt at the death of Anton Mauve (he painted his 'Tribute to mauve' shortly after Mauve' s death sending it on to Joy (?) Mauve.

Enough about the Past:
  • I am slowly, very slowly, but very surely, working with what little resources I have, on my art exhibit due in August 2008. From the Cape to the Catalina's, the Canyon and Beyond... compares the natural beauty of the Western cape of South Africa, with that of Arizona.

  • I am in need of seed money for this project. I forsee this developing into an educational exhibit that should, if I can get it all together, travel, at least statewide.

  • Know of a (even small) source of funding - please contact me.

Meditative Moments...

Meditative Moments I...

Welcome to ArtStudIo_JB ArtNews - my new art blog.
"To work and to dare... is living."
Vincent to Theo van Gogh. (Letter #x.)

The sole purpose of this blog is to keep you, my art client/patron updated on my new images.

Having just completed my first pastel commission, I believe rather successfully, I have uploaded an image of 'Meditative Moments...'

" I consider making studies like sowing and making pictures like reaping." Vincent to Theo van Gogh. (Letter #233.)

'Meditative Moments...' specifics:
Based on my signature piece for the Tucson 2006 Open Studio Tour, 'Waterlilies', the client who purchased Waterlilies, later commission me for a larger piece.

'Meditative Moments...' was created in triptych on Wallis Belgium Mist and White paper, using the harder NuPastel as a base, Rembrandt semi-hard pastels for the initial and middle stages and Sennilier soft for the highlights.

The 3 images together measures 22" x 72" and is the most satisfying as well as challenging pastel I have yet created.

More, please, more! I love this type of challenge.
